I recently presented at a Knowledge Management Institute event on the topic of Taxonomy Governance. I regard taxonomy governance as a critical component of any information management initiative. Though most organizations understand the important role effective taxonomy design plays, taxonomy governance still seems to be a blind spot. Taxonomy governance has clear ROI. Where a taxonomy redesign or refresh effort can easily run upwards of $100k, designing and establishing a taxonomy governance plan that would alleviate the need for a full redesign or refresh is significantly less than that.
My presentation covered some of the major challenges with taxonomy management and iteration and provided a clear approach to addressing these challenges through governance.
