Governance and Iteration of Taxonomies

I recently presented at a Knowledge Management Institute event on the topic of Taxonomy Governance.  I regard taxonomy governance as a critical component of any information management initiative.  Though most organizations understand the important role effective taxonomy design plays, taxonomy governance still seems to be a blind spot.  Taxonomy governance has clear ROI.  Where a taxonomy redesign or refresh effort can easily run upwards of $100k, designing and establishing a taxonomy governance plan that would alleviate the need for a full redesign or refresh is significantly less than that.

My presentation covered some of the major challenges with taxonomy management and iteration and provided a clear approach to addressing these challenges through governance.
